Budget 2010 increased tax on alcohol

Latest Drinks news on the Budget increase affecting the hospitality industry. In yesterdays budget the hospitality and drinks industry was get again hit by Chancellor Alistair Darling in the budget on Wednesday 24th March 2010.

The changes in the duty for this year are as follows :-

Increase on price of Beer (4.2% abv) - 2pence per pint

Increase on price of Wine - 10pence increase per 75cl bottle

Increase on Sparkling Wine – 12pence per 75cl bottle

Spirits (37.5% abv) – 36pence increase on a 70cl bottle

Spirits – based ready to drink – 2pence increase per 275ml bottle

Increase on the price of Cider – 5pence per litre

Sparkling Cider increase of – 9pence per 75cl bottle

Mr Darling also said that their would be an introduction of new measures defining the different types of cider, by this one would imagine that the stronger ciders may be more expensive.

Response to the budget:-

Mobile Bar Hire – “I think it would be great to see a budget which helps our industry, we are all key players within the hospitality sector of the UK’s economy, a little appreciation would be nice !”

Paul – “I think drinks are already over priced in some places and I don’t really think that increasing the price of drinks is going to stop people from drinking alcohol”.
